Steve's Plating Corporation

History

Steve's Plating Corp. started in 1956 as a small job shop dealing in automobile parts, household appliances and furniture refinishing. 50 years later, SPC has developed a wide variety of manufacturing and finishing capabilities and has become a cornerstone in the metal fabrication and finishing industry. Some highlights of the company are listed below:

1956: Steve Milan Knezevich, a former Marine, professional gambler and part-time metal polisher, incorporated Steve's Plating Corp. with the intention of creating a legacy for his children to inherit and cultivate.
1960: SPC began manufacturing and finishing stainless steel swimming pool equipment, marketing the products under the name of Mermaid Pool Equipment. To this day, Mermaid, a sister company of SPC, is the oldest stainless steel deck equipment manufacturer in the country.
1965: SPC moved to its current location in Burbank; an expansion from 10,000 square feet to over 30,000 square feet.
1966: SPC installed plating tanks at an unprecedented length of 14'. To this day, our tanks are some of the largest of its kind in southern California.
1969: SPC installed automated polishing equipment, including both straight-line abrasive and straight-line buffing machines.

1972: SPC began the manufacturing and finishing of metal furniture for the commercial industry as well as residential use. Unifactor, another sister company of SPC, was developed to market metal furniture to the commercial industry.

1978: SPC expanded by adding an additional 25,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space.

1980-1990: SPC developed significant and pioneering capabilities in manufacturing and finishing for several different industries:

Metal furniture

Store fixtures and displays

Gym equipment

Automotive after-market equipment

Medical equipment for the handicapped

Sheet metal components

1985: SPC expanded another 25,000 square feet to its current total of 80,000 square feet of manufacturing and finishing under one roof.

1987: SPC became one of the first job shops to switch from the commonly used Hexavalent chrome to the environmentally friendly Trivalent chrome.

1992: SPC installed an automated conveyorized powder coating line and a separate wet coat paint system for production and custom work.

1996: SPC added its first CNC automated bending machine.

2000: SPC fully staffed a design and drafting department utilizing state-of-the-art auto-CAD technology and Inventor programs.

2006: SPC celebrates its 50th Anniversary!
